Carter Efe Praises Davido, Laments Wizkid’s Silence Over “Machala” Song

Popular Nigerian skit maker and singer, Odahohwo Joseph Efe, professionally known as Carter Efe, has publicly appreciated Afrobeats superstar Davido for his support, while expressing disappointment over what he described as lack of acknowledgment from Wizkid.

The entertainer made the remarks during a recent livestream, where he reflected on key moments that helped boost his visibility in the entertainment industry. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

Carter Efe recalled how Davido surprised fans by joining his Twitch livestream in 2024, an appearance that later set a record as the most-watched Twitch livestream in Africa at the time.

According to Carter Efe, Davido’s participation significantly increased his exposure and career momentum, describing the DMW boss as a genuine supporter who is always willing to uplift upcoming talents.

“Davido is a legend and a real supporter,” he said. “He came to my livestream and changed the game for me.”

In contrast, the skit maker lamented that Wizkid failed to acknowledge him, despite releasing a song dedicated to the singer that later became a commercial success.

Carter Efe referenced his 2022 hit song “Machala,” which topped music charts and was widely associated with Wizkid’s nickname. He expressed disappointment that the Afrobeats star did not respond or reach out afterward.

He further noted that Wizkid had engaged publicly with Seun Kuti, a situation he found discouraging, given his own efforts to celebrate the singer through music.

“Wizkid couldn’t even say ‘hi’ to me after I dropped a number one song for him,” Carter Efe said partly in Pidgin. “But he had time to reply Seun Kuti. That one pain me.”

Carter Efe’s comments have since sparked mixed reactions online, with some fans defending Wizkid’s right to engage selectively, while others praised Davido for his consistent support of creatives across different entertainment spaces.

As of the time of filing this report, Wizkid has not responded to Carter Efe’s remarks.
