Afro Nation Accused of ‘Theft’ After Canceling $1,105 Ticket Without Refund: Lady Cries Out
A disgruntled attendee has taken to social media to accuse Afro Nation of “stealing” from her, after her $1,105 Golden Ticket for the Portugal edition of the music festival was allegedly canceled without a refund. Eyes Of Lagos reports,
The woman, who shared her experience in a now-viral thread, said she purchased the high-tier Golden Ticket for the event scheduled to hold from July 9th to 11th. However, due to personal reasons, she was unable to attend.
Ticket Transfer Troubles
In a bid to recover her funds, she reached out to Afro Nation organizers via email, only to be informed that the only way to get a refund was to resell the ticket, as she hadn’t purchased ticket insurance.
She agreed to initiate the ticket transfer, but claimed she never received any update from the organizers. Frustrated by the silence, she contacted her bank, American Express (Amex), for assistance.
“Amex stepped in and temporarily refunded me the money,” she said. “But weeks later, the charge was reversed after Afro Nation responded to them saying the charge was valid.”
Canceled Without Warning
Realizing she still wanted to attend the festival, she explored travel options, only to find that last-minute flights to Portugal were too expensive. As an alternative, she attempted to resell or gift the ticket, but was shocked to discover it had been canceled.
“When I clicked on the ticket link, it showed it had been canceled. I believe Afro Nation canceled it when I got the refund from my bank, and I didn’t know,” she wrote.
“Pure Theft”: She Demands Accountability
Angered by the situation, the woman described the incident as “pure theft” and publicly called out Afro Nation, demanding a full refund.
“How do you cancel a ticket I paid for and don’t want to refund me? Even if I wanted to attend the festival, I can’t because I don’t have a ticket,” she wrote.
“$1,100 is a lot of money for me to let go. Afro Nation, please do the right thing and refund me!”
She also claimed to have email evidence from Afro Nation confirming the ticket’s cancellation — yet denying her a refund. Screenshots of her complaint and supporting proof were also shared online.
Mixed Reactions Online
Her post has triggered mixed reactions on social media, with some sympathizing with her plight, while others questioned her decision not to insure such an expensive ticket.
