Gunmen Attack Ex-Sports Minister’s Home in Plateau: Woman K!lled, Police Escort Injured

A tragic incident rocked Dalwal village in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State on Wednesday night, as unknown gunmen attacked the home of former Minister of Sports, Damishi Sango. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

According to reports, the attackers stormed the compound at approximately 10:46 p.m., opening fire indiscriminately. The assault resulted in the death of a female relative and serious injuries to a police escort attached to the former minister.

Police Escort Shot, Service Rifle Stolen

The injured officer, Inspector Walba Go Tom, of the Special Protection Unit Base 4 in Makurdi, sustained multiple gunshot wounds. He was reportedly overpowered during the attack, and his service rifle, an assault weapon with a registered breach number, was stolen by the gunmen.

He is currently receiving treatment at a local hospital and is said to be responding well to medical care.

Female Relative Dies After Gunshot Wound

Tragically, a female relative of the former minister was also hit during the gunfire exchange and succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment at Plateau Specialists Hospital in Jos.

Attackers Still at Large

Community sources confirmed that the attackers fled the scene before security reinforcements could arrive. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack as of the time of this report, and investigations are ongoing.

Condolences from Solomon Dalung

In response to the attack, former Minister of Sports, Solomon Dalung, extended his deepest condolences to Damishi Sango and his family, describing the incident as “a grave act of cowardice.”

“My thoughts are with the Sango family during this painful time. We must continue to demand better security for all Nigerians, no matter their status,” Dalung said in a statement.

Ongoing Insecurity in Plateau State

This latest attack highlights the growing insecurity in Plateau State, which has witnessed a surge in banditry, armed robbery, and targeted violence in recent months. Residents of Dalwal and surrounding communities are calling for increased military presence and round-the-clock surveillance.
