IGP Orders Investigation Into KWAM 1 Over Abuja Airport Flight Drama
The Nigeria Police Force has opened a formal investigation into Fuji music legend Wasiu Ayinde Marshal (KWAM 1)following an alleged unruly incident at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja. Eyes Of Lagos reports,
The move comes after the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) submitted a petition accusing the veteran singer of obstructing safe aircraft operations during a ValueJet Airlines Flight VK 201 from Abuja to Lagos on August 5, 2025.
NCAA Accusations Against KWAM 1
According to the NCAA’s petition, KWAM 1 allegedly attempted to board the flight with a flask containing an unidentified liquid, later determined to be alcohol. This reportedly breached aviation security rules that ban liquids over 100ml unless medically justified and properly declared.
When confronted by Aviation Security (AVSEC) personnel and the flight captain, KWAM 1 allegedly spilled the liquid on an officer and attempted to block the aircraft’s departure, leading to his brief detention by the AVSEC crime unit.
In response, the NCAA imposed a six-month no-fly ban on the musician and petitioned both the Attorney-General of the Federation and the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) for his prosecution under the Criminal Code Act—an offence that could carry up to two years in prison for obstructing aircraft movement.
IGP Orders Full Investigation
Police spokesperson DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi confirmed in a Tuesday press briefing that the IGP, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has instructed the Commissioner of Police, Airport Command, to conduct a thorough probe into the matter.
“The Force hereby assures the public of its commitment to upholding safety and security within Nigeria’s aviation sector, while assuring stakeholders of strict compliance with aviation laws,” Adejobi said.
KWAM 1 Denies Allegations
KWAM 1’s media aide, Kunle Rasheed, has rejected the allegations, describing them as “exaggerated and misleading.” He insisted that the liquid in question was plain drinking water, not alcohol.
The aide further claimed that airline executives even offered to arrange a private jet for the singer, which he declined, suggesting he was being unfairly targeted.
Despite the denial, the NCAA and police authorities have maintained their stance, stressing that aviation safety violations will be treated with the utmost seriousness.
