Lagos Car Dealer, Adekeye Adeyemi, Remanded for Allegedly Defrauding Customers of N39 Million

A Lagos-based auto dealer, Adekeye Adeyemi (44), has been arrested and remanded over allegations of defrauding two clients of N39 million in a luxury car purchase scam.

According to police reports, Adeyemi allegedly collected N14 million from one victim, Owolabi Onipede, for a Lexus RX 350 (2010 model) and a Toyota Camry (2011 model). He was also accused of obtaining N25 million from another client, Seun Segun Adebayo, to supply five Mercedes-Benz vehicles. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

Investigations revealed that the dealer failed to deliver any of the vehicles, diverted the funds for personal use, and went into hiding. Following multiple petitions, operatives attached to the Zone 2 Command, led by AIG Adegoke Fayoade, tracked and arrested him in Lagos.

Adeyemi was arraigned at the Igbosere Magistrate’s Court, sitting at the Tinubu Magistrate’s Court, on a four-count charge of conspiracy, stealing, and unlawful conversion.

Prosecuting counsel, ASP Ibrahim Haruna, stated that the alleged crimes occurred in November 2021 at Ojodu, Lagos. Despite collecting the payments, the suspect neither supplied the vehicles nor refunded the victims.

Law enforcement agencies have since issued fresh warnings to the public about the rising cases of fraudulent car dealership scams in Lagos.
