“Buhari’s Aide: Naira Marley Deserves Apology Over Mohbad’s Death Allegations”

Bashir Ahmad, former Senior Special Assistant on New Media to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, has weighed in on the controversy between Nigerian singer Azeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley, and the late rapper Ilerioluwa Aloba, aka Mohbad. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

Ahmad, in a post shared via X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday, revealed that he had not closely followed the case until recently. However, after watching Naira Marley’s detailed narration and evidence surrounding the events leading to Mohbad’s passing, he believes the singer has been wrongly accused by many.

“I never really took time to study the Naira Marley and Mohbad saga. I was only aware of the headlines and social media uproar until this morning, when I watched Naira Marley’s video, where he shared his side of the story,” Ahmad wrote.

“Honestly, I wouldn’t have believed him if he hadn’t documented everything—messages, calls, videos, and dates, from their first interaction to the last.”

He described Naira Marley’s meticulous record-keeping as a “lifesaving habit” that can protect one from “injustice and false narratives.”

Bashir Ahmad further insisted that those who accused Marley without concrete evidence owe him an apology, adding:

“Those who wrongly accused Naira Marley owe him an apology, at the very least. May Mohbad continue to rest in peace.”

In a follow-up response to critics, Ahmad noted how challenging it was to defend the singer earlier due to the heated online sentiment, but he applauded Marley for finally speaking out:

“Until recently, speaking in his defense was difficult. I’m glad he came out to tell his side. Now, people can judge for themselves.”
