The Catholic Diocese of Oyo has announced the passing of its Bishop Emeritus, Most Rev. Julius Babatunde Adelakun, who died peacefully on Friday, October 24, 2025, at the age of 91.

Born on November 4, 1934, in Oyo State, Bishop Adelakun dedicated his life to God and humanity. He was ordained a Catholic priest in 1965 and later consecrated as bishop in 1973, marking the beginning of a remarkable journey that shaped the Catholic community in southwestern Nigeria.
During his 36-year episcopacy (1973–2009), Bishop Adelakun became a pillar of strength, establishing parishes, schools, and community outreach programs that continue to transform lives across Oyo State and beyond.
