Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, will embark on a one-month vacation starting Friday, August 29, 2025, and has officially transferred executive powers to his deputy, Barrister Bayo Lawal, who will serve as Acting Governor during the period. Eyes Of Lagos reports,
This decision was formally communicated through a letter addressed to the Oyo State House of Assembly and read by the Speaker, Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, during Tuesday’s plenary session.
According to the governor’s letter, the temporary handover is in compliance with Section 190(1) of the 1999 Constitution, which mandates state governors to notify their assemblies before proceeding on leave or vacation.
“I hereby transmit that during the period indicated above, the Deputy Governor, Barrister Bayo Lawal, shall serve as Acting Governor. I shall resume duty upon my return from vacation on Monday, 29th September 2025,” the letter stated in part.
The Oyo State House of Assembly has acknowledged receipt of the communication and assured full cooperation to ensure a seamless transition of duties during the governor’s absence.
With this development, Barrister Bayo Lawal will oversee the state’s executive affairs from August 29 to September 29, 2025. The Assembly also confirmed that it will reconvene for plenary on September 16, 2025, to continue legislative activities.
Governor Makinde’s leave marks another instance of adherence to constitutional governance in Oyo State, as the deputy governor is set to wield full acting powers until the governor’s return.
