How the Accident Happened
The spokesperson for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), Babatunde Akinbiyi, confirmed the incident, explaining that a speeding Toyota Corolla (number plate KSF 579 DM) lost control and rammed into the schoolchildren as they were walking home.
“According to eyewitnesses, four male children of Iddo Primary School were walking home from school when a Toyota Corolla that was speeding lost control and rammed into them. All four died on the spot,” Akinbiyi said.
The bodies of the victims were taken to General Hospital, Ijaiye, for certification before being released to their families for burial.
Driver Rescued from Angry Youths
Eyewitnesses reported that angry youths attempted to lynch the driver after the crash, but security operatives rescued him before the situation escalated.
Residents’ Protest Disrupts Traffic
Following the tragedy, angry community members blocked the busy expressway in protest, demanding justice and better road safety measures.
Akinbiyi added:
“Community members protested the death of the pupils, which affected traffic flow, but with the combined efforts of TRACE, the police, and the Nigerian Army, normalcy was restored.”
