The United States Embassy has announced the temporary closure of its offices in both Abuja and Lagos on Friday, July 4, 2025, in observance of the U.S. Independence Day. Eyes Of Lagos reports,
This annual holiday commemorates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, marking the historic moment when the 13 American colonies officially declared separation from British rule.
As a result, all regular consular services, including visa interviews, document pickups, and routine inquiries, will be suspended for the day.
“The U.S. Embassy and Consulate General in Lagos will be closed on Friday, July 4, in honor of American Independence Day. Emergency services remain available via designated channels,” a statement from the Embassy read.
Emergency Services Remain Active
Despite the closure, the Embassy confirmed that emergency services—such as assistance for U.S. citizens in distress—will still be available through official contact lines.
Full consular operations are expected to resume on Monday, July 7, 2025.
