A Christmas celebration reportedly turned chaotic on Wednesday after a fire broke out at a hotel in Abule-Egba, Lagos State, following the alleged ignition of fireworks by a guest during an indoor event. Eyes Of Lagos reports,
Eyewitness accounts circulating on social media indicate that the incident occurred during a Christmas party when fireworks were allegedly set off inside the hotel, an action said to be contrary to basic safety guidelines. The sparks from the fireworks reportedly came into contact with flammable materials within the premises, triggering a fire outbreak.
Videos shared online captured moments of panic as guests hurriedly evacuated the building amid thick smoke, while hotel staff and emergency responders moved quickly to contain the situation. The fire was reportedly brought under control before it could spread further within the facility.
As of the time of filing this report, no fatalities have been confirmed. However, some guests were said to have received medical attention for shock and minor injuries sustained during the evacuation.
The management of the hotel has yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident, while relevant authorities are reportedly conducting investigations to establish the exact cause of the fire and identify those responsible.
