Two Killed as Petrol Tanker Crashes Into Motorcycle in Lagos

Two persons have been confirmed dead following a tragic road accident involving a petrol tanker and a commercial motorcycle along the Epe–Ijebu Road in Lagos State. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

The fatal incident occurred on Wednesday at Pokia Junction, inward Araga, Epe, when an empty petrol tanker rammed into a motorcycle carrying a rider and a passenger, killing both victims on the spot.

Officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) arrested the tanker driver immediately after the crash and handed him over to the appropriate authorities for further investigation.

Confirming the incident, the General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, said preliminary findings revealed that the commercial motorcyclist was conveying a male passenger while driving against traffic on a prohibited one-way route, in clear violation of traffic regulations.

According to him, the motorcycle was struck by the speeding tanker, resulting in the fatal crash.

Bakare-Oki noted that LASTMA officials promptly arrived at the scene, secured the area to prevent secondary accidents, and ensured the smooth flow of traffic along the busy corridor.

The bodies of the deceased rider and passenger, alongside the arrested tanker driver, were later handed over to officers of the Nigeria Police attached to the Noforija Police Division for further investigation and necessary legal action.

LASTMA reiterated its call on all road users to obey traffic laws and exercise caution, warning that reckless driving and traffic violations continue to pose serious risks to lives on Lagos roads.
