A 20-year-old man, Ibrahim Mutari, has allegedly killed his father’s 70-year-old stepmother, Hauwa Abubakar, in Yanbula community, Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The tragic incident reportedly occurred at about 3:00 p.m. on Monday, February 2, 2026,  Eyes Of Lagos reports,

The husband of the deceased, Abubakar Shuaibu, condemned the act, describing it as cruel and inhumane.

He alleged that the suspect attacked, strangled, and stabbed his wife before fleeing the scene.

A daughter of the deceased, Ummi Ahmed, disclosed that the suspect had earlier threatened to take revenge following a violent altercation between him and their younger brother, Musa, which occurred last year.

According to her, the two brothers had fought during which Musa allegedly stabbed Ibrahim in the stomach, leading to his hospitalisation.

“Ibrahim vowed to take revenge on either the children of the deceased or their mother while he was in the hospital. Sadly, he has now carried out that threat,” she said.

Ummi further revealed that medical personnel had cautioned the family about the suspect’s statements at the time, describing his utterances as dangerous.

She added that the deceased had shown kindness to Ibrahim during his hospital stay.

“She took care of him throughout his treatment until he was discharged. Despite her care and kindness, he still went ahead to kill her,” she lamented.

Further investigations revealed that the suspect’s father had a close relationship with the deceased, who raised him after his biological mother died during his childhood.

In appreciation of her care, the suspect’s father reportedly brought her into his home and treated her as his own mother until his death.

Security operatives are said to be investigating the incident, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the suspect.
