Ibrahim Traoré Unveils $300 Million World-Class Stadium in Burkina Faso

Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso — In a landmark moment for Burkinabè sports and infrastructure, Interim President Ibrahim Traoré has inaugurated the newly refurbished August 4th Stadium, a $300 million project set to host the country’s first home football match in over three years. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

The unveiling comes after years of infrastructural decline and security concerns, which had forced Burkina Faso’s national team—the Stallions—to play international fixtures abroad since 2021.

🌍 A Stadium of Global Standards

The state-of-the-art renovation includes:

  • Modern digital scoreboards

  • VIP lounges and media facilities

  • Upgraded seating arrangements

  • Olympic-grade athletics track

  • Refurbished training centres and gymnasiums

With CAF and FIFA now officially approving the stadium for international matches, the Stallions are set to return to home turf this September 2025.

🇧🇫 National Symbol of Unity and Progress

President Traoré called the stadium a symbol of resilience and national pride, linking the project to a broader national agenda to invest in youth, unity, and public infrastructure.

Prime Minister Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo, who inspected the project in May 2025, praised the completion, stating the stadium “exceeded expectations.”

The new facility is already being considered a potential host for regional tournaments and youth development programs, putting Burkina Faso on the map for African sports excellence.
