I’m Among Those Marked by the U.S. for Elimination – Sheikh Gumi Claims

Controversial Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has alleged that he is among individuals being targeted by the United States under the guise of being labelled a Boko Haram terrorist.

Gumi made the claim while speaking on recent security concerns surrounding his person, stating that the information was discreetly relayed to him by security sources. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

According to the cleric, he became aware of the alleged plot after receiving an early-morning phone call from an unidentified contact based in Abuja, who warned him of the development.

He claimed that the alleged plan involves branding him a terrorist in order to justify possible actions against him, insisting that the accusations were unfounded.

In his remarks, Sheikh Gumi also questioned prevailing global narratives on terrorism, arguing that the emergence and persistence of insurgent groups were often linked to the actions, interests, and interventions of powerful foreign nations rather than local religious leaders.

“Even the Americans said they came to fight terrorists. So who are the terrorists? They are the ones,” Gumi said.

The cleric, who has remained a polarising figure in Nigeria’s security and religious discourse due to his past comments on banditry and insurgency, did not provide further details on the alleged plan or the specific security agencies involved.

As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official response from the United States government or Nigerian security agencies regarding the claims.
