Landlord Sparks Outrage After Banning Tenants From Buying Food Outside

A landlord has stirred controversy after issuing a directive prohibiting tenants in his building from purchasing food or household provisions outside the premises.

According to an official notice obtained by reporters, residents are now required to buy all food items and household supplies directly from the landlady within the compound. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

The notice, titled “Mandatory House Rules and Regulations,” states that tenants must comply strictly with the directive or risk immediate eviction.

The directive clearly states that tenants are not allowed to purchase foodstuffs or other household items from external vendors.

“Tenants are not permitted to purchase such items outside, as these goods are already made available within the house,” the notice reads.

The landlord explained that the rule is intended to maintain order and proper management within the compound.

However, the policy has raised questions about tenants’ rights and personal freedom, especially regarding how residents choose to buy their food and daily necessities.

Beyond the food purchase restriction, the notice also outlines several strict rules governing daily activities within the property.

Among the regulations:

  • The main gate will be locked from 12:00 midnight to 5:00 a.m., preventing entry or exit during that period.

  • Crowded gatherings and loitering around the compound are prohibited.

  • Smoking anywhere within the premises is strictly forbidden.

  • Noise disturbances, fighting, or misconduct will not be tolerated.

The notice also warned tenants that any security breach caused by negligence would result in the responsible tenant being held fully accountable.

The landlord emphasized that the regulations are non-negotiable, warning tenants that failure to comply would lead to immediate eviction.

“Any tenant who fails or refuses to comply with these regulations shall be required to vacate the apartment immediately without further notice,” the statement read.

Tenants were advised to carefully review the house rules, noting that continued residence in the building and payment of rent would be interpreted as full acceptance of the conditions.

The unusual directive has sparked discussions about the limits of landlords’ authority and tenants’ rights, with many questioning whether such rules can legally be enforced.

Housing advocates say landlords are expected to maintain order within properties but should avoid imposing restrictions that interfere with tenants’ personal choices or freedom of purchase.
