Emir Sanusi Raises Alarm After Supporters of Deposed Emir Bayero Allegedly Attack His Palace, Remove Gate

The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has raised alarm over a violent incident involving supporters of the deposed 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, who allegedly attacked the Kofar-Kudu Palace and removed one of its gates during a confrontation. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

In a statement released by the Kano Emirate Media Team, and signed by Sadam Yakasai, the incident was described as a deliberate act of provocation allegedly led by Bayero’s loyalists.

Violent Clash at Gidan Rumfa

The statement revealed that Bayero’s supporters stormed the palace, damaged the main gate, and assaulted palace guards, leaving several injured. The attackers also vandalized police vehicles stationed at the scene.

“They broke the gate and attacked the guards, injuring some of them. They smashed the police vehicles in the palace,” the statement read.

According to the Emirate, the unrest began when Aminu Ado Bayero allegedly took a route directly past Gidan Rumfa (Sanusi’s palace), instead of the alternative road from Koki to Nassarawa.

“Aminu deliberately passed through the Emir’s Palace road instead of taking the proper route. His hoodlums then attacked the palace in an attempt to intimidate the people of the area,” the statement added.

Escalating Tensions in Kano

This latest incident underscores the escalating tension in Kano’s traditional institution following the reinstatement of Emir Sanusi II and the ongoing controversy surrounding Bayero’s removal and refusal by some factions to accept the new emirate structure.

The palace attack has sparked public concern over security and order in the state, with many calling on authorities to intervene and prevent further escalation.
