
Veteran Nollywood actress Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde has shared the story behind her famous nickname, “Omosexy,” which has become synonymous with her brand over the years.
Speaking during an interview on Naija FM, the award-winning actress disclosed that the name was coined by her husband, Captain Matthew Ekeinde, early in their marriage.
According to her, the nickname originated after her husband bought her a Lincoln Navigator SUV and customised the vehicle’s number plate with the name “Omosexy,” a gesture that eventually stuck and became widely recognised by fans and the entertainment industry. Eyes Of Lagos reports,
Responding to a question from the interviewer about the origin of the name, she said in pidgin English:
“Na my honey boy give me that name… e buy me one Lincoln Navigator that time… e put am for the plate number, you know, him write am there.”
The revelation has since generated mixed reactions on social media, with some users expressing surprise at the story while others shared humorous takes on the luxury gift mentioned by the actress.
Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, who married her husband in 1996 at the age of 18, remains one of Nollywood’s most influential figures, with a career spanning over two decades in film, television, and philanthropy.
