Ride-hailing platform inDrive has announced the permanent removal of one of its drivers following allegations that he assaulted a female passenger, Amina Usman, during a trip.
The company confirmed the decision in an official statement released after reviewing the incident, emphasizing that the safety of riders and drivers remains one of its core priorities.
Earlier, Eyes of Lagos reported Amina Usman’s emotional account of the incident. She alleged that she was assaulted and humiliated by the driver after a disagreement over an outstanding ₦600 fare balance.
The incident generated widespread reactions across social media, with many Nigerians calling for accountability and stronger safety measures on ride-hailing platforms.
Following its internal investigation, inDrive stated that the driver’s account has been permanently deactivated, preventing him from using the platform again.
The company reiterated that it maintains a strict policy against violence and misconduct involving anyone who uses its services.
According to the statement:
“We are deeply concerned by the incident involving a driver and passenger, Ms. Amina Usman. The safety and wellbeing of everyone who uses our platform is our highest priority, and we take reports of this nature very seriously. inDrive has zero tolerance for violence towards anyone using our platform.
inDrive also disclosed that it is prepared to cooperate fully with law enforcement authorities if requested.
The company stated that any relevant information required for official investigations would be made available in accordance with applicable laws and its privacy obligations.
It further encouraged riders and drivers to report safety-related concerns through the app’s Support and Safety Centre to enable prompt investigations.
“We encourage anyone who experiences an issue during a trip to report it through the in-app Support or Safety Centre so that we can investigate and take appropriate action in line with our policies.”
The company added that protecting the safety and trust of everyone on its platform remains a top priority and pledged to continue taking decisive action against users who violate its safety standards.
As conversations about passenger safety continue, inDrive reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a secure environment for both riders and drivers.
The company urged users to immediately report any suspicious behavior, threats, or safety concerns through its in-app reporting tools, saying swift reporting helps ensure appropriate action is taken.
