Veteran Nollywood actor Chiwetalu Agu has paid an emotional tribute to late movie star Alexx Ekubo, expressing deep sadness over the actor’s death and describing him as a gifted storyteller whose life ended too soon.
Alexx Ekubo reportedly passed away on May 11, 2026, at the age of 40 after battling complications linked to advanced metastatic kidney cancer. His family later announced funeral arrangements, with his burial scheduled for June 18 in his hometown of Arochukwu, Abia State. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

In a heartfelt video shared on his Instagram page, Chiwetalu Agu reflected on Alexx Ekubo’s passion for acting and the dedication he brought to the Nigerian film industry.
The veteran actor said he understood the sacrifices required to build a successful career in Nollywood and praised the late actor for giving his all to the profession.
He wrote:
“Rest in peace, Alex Ekubo. I am saddened by your passing. As a fellow actor, who has walked this path for many years, I know how much passion, sacrifice and heart you poured into your craft.”
Agu added that Alexx Ekubo was a young man filled with talent and endless possibilities.
“You were young, talented and full of promise, and it hurts to see a light like yours go out so soon.”

Continuing his tribute, Chiwetalu Agu said Nollywood had lost more than just an actor.
According to him, the late movie star was a storyteller whose creativity and energy brought life to every role he played.
“The stage and screen haven’t just lost an actor but a storyteller who still had many roles left to bring to life. Your presence, energy, and dedication will not be forgotten.”
