“I Did Crazy Things for Music” – Zinoleesky Opens Up About His Early Struggles and Breakthrough

Fast-rising Afrobeats sensation, Zinoleesky, has opened up about the extreme lengths he went to in order to chase his music dreams — including running away from home at a young age.  Eyes Of Lagos reports,

In a candid interview with SB Live, the ‘Kilofeshe’ crooner shared how societal and parental expectations made it difficult for him to pursue a career in entertainment, a path most Nigerian parents often frown upon.

“Nigerian parents are always in denial whenever you want to do stuff like music,” Zinoleesky said. “They want you to study a professional course or learn a trade. So, you just have to find a way. Me, I did some crazy stuff. I ran away from home to do music.”

From Freestyle Rapper to Afrobeats Star

Zinoleesky, born Oniyide Azeez, began his musical journey as a rapper, but later transitioned into singing — a move that would eventually launch his meteoric rise in the Nigerian music scene.

His breakthrough came in 2017, when his freestyle videos started going viral on social media platforms, capturing the attention of music lovers and industry insiders.

There were even speculations that he turned down a record deal from Davido’s DMW, choosing instead to wait for the right fit. Eventually, in December 2019, Zinoleesky signed with Marlian Music, the record label owned by controversial singer Naira Marley.

Hit Songs and Stardom

Zinoleesky became a household name following the release of his debut EP, Chrome Eccentric, which featured fan-favorite tracks like ‘Ma Pariwo’ and ‘Kilofeshe’. His unique sound and street-inspired lyrics have since earned him a spot among Nigeria’s new wave of Afrobeats hitmakers.
